Healthcare Clown International Meeting 2021!

Folks,

I will be involved in two presentations at H.C.I.M., the Healthcare Clown International Meeting. The conference is October 6-8th at The Hague in the Netherlands. The Healthcare Clown International Meeting is a conference of medical clowns from across the world. Three years ago and I was able to attend the conference in Vienna. This year, I'm delighted that they excepted the two proposals for the workshops..

One workshop will be the "Anti- Racism” workshop presented by The D.R.I.V.E. Forward team. "D.R.I.V.E." is an acronym for Diversity, Representation, Inclusion, Voice, and Equity. We are a diverse group of artists dedicated to using humor and dialogue to engage people in openly discussing issues of equity and inclusion. The team includes Leah James Abel, Denise Arribas, Calvin Kai Ku, Mal Malme, and me. Over the past year and a half, the D.R.I.V.E. Forward team has done workshops for youth and diversity workshops for clowns in the United States and Canada. We are happy to have this opportunity to present our workshop to an international audience.

The second workshop is my movement and music workshop called "Why Stop the Music?" I developed the concepts in this workshop after my 20+ years of hospital clowning. This workshop will give the participants an opportunity to explore ideas of timing, rhythm, and movement in their clown work.

I'm looking forward to presenting these workshops. The conference three years ago was a massive highlight for me. I enjoyed seeing so many other performers and clowns, and administrators from all over the world. I'm also thrilled to be able to present at the conference.

The Covid pandemic has not gone away. However, many of us are vaccinated, and some travel opportunities are available. I am grateful for this opportunity to go to this conference and spend time with my international clown peers. You can get more information about the conference here. You can also read one of my essays about medical clowning on the conference website here.

This blog is included as one of the Top Clown Blogs and Websites To Follow in 2021. This site covers a wide variety of issues in clowning. You can check out the top clown blogs here.
